We are looking for an optical networking professional to join our product line management and planning team.  We need someone who is energetic, process focused, articulate, understands optical engineering and telecom networking, and is experienced bringing new features to market. The successful candidate will work with Sales & Marketing, other Product Line Management, Engineering Development, and vendors to identify needs and drive optical line system requirements onto roadmap, develop justification business cases for executive approval and author detailed requirement specifications to define functionality. In addition, you will work directly with customers to source information and read-out plans and status. This position encompasses planning for optical line systems as well as transponders, switchponders and potentially other elements. Skills in both technical optical technology as well as business valuation of new functionality are beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Collect deep understanding of the customer network, approval process, application needs, timelines, and personnel and apply this in developing roadmaps and adoption plans 
  • Act as customer advocate to request new features or product development, providing customer application and market driver information to support feature prioritization, business cases, and development
  • Develop & defend successful business plans, with both technical and business financial strategies to gain project development commitment and customer adoption
  • Author detailed optical and operational requirement documents, negotiate new release content, and communicate capabilities to sakeholders
  • Develop & Present customer specific messages for resolution of faults, field issues, or new feature requests
  • Provide technical input to RFP responses and act as technical expert in support of Sale & Marketing activities with customers
  • Assist Account Management with P&L financial analysis of customer deals that may be considered periodically
  • Provide Competitive Intelligence into Planning on Open Line System, Optical component market trends, and competitor capabilities

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in technical area, advanced degree beneficial in either technical or business role. preferred: BS Photonics/Optical Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering
  • At least 5+ years industry experience in optical networking with direct optical equipment experience in development, PLM,  sales, sales engineering and/or project management
  • Technical understanding of optical point-to-point line systems, ROADM, EDFA/RAMAN amps, coherent optics, optical design and impairments
  • Communications Service Provider Tier 1 market experience preferred
  • Understanding of Operational Support Systems and Open optical networking standards concepts is beneficial
  • Customer Presentation Skills and Experience
  • Good project management, teamwork, marketing, and communications skills
  • Understanding and ability to position business considerations: Value propositions, RoI, IRR, market positioning
  • Able to travel as necessary, potentially up to 25% of the time
